Women and Mobility Series - Episode 6

Featuring Mahvish Ahmad (@mahvish.ahmad)

In a world obsessed with productivity, Virginia Woolf’s call for a room of one’s own reminds us that true creativity and fulfilment require time, space, and freedom.

Women, often burdened with invisible labor, must resist the pressure to always be ‘useful’ and reclaim their right to simply exist.

Mahvish Ahmed—published writer and social media influencer—explores the importance of space and leisure for women balancing motherhood and household responsibilities.

As a nomad raising children across cultures and borders, she strives to create an environment where they can grow freely, nurturing identities filled with creativity and ideas. Mahvish emphasises the need for women to celebrate themselves, honour both their visible and invisible labor, and reclaim personal space. She does not preach but instead leads by example, embodying the strength and resilience needed to navigate motherhood and individuality.

Recently having published her memoir, On My Way, a compelling work of literature for nomadic women navigating patriarchal Pakistani society while raising children and discovering their own identities, Mahvish is an advocate for solitude and personal space, Mahvish challenges the culture of hyper-productivity.
